There are many many more tracks on the compilation, but I wanted you all to discover for yourself and see what kind of reaction you would get, as I did the first time I saw it.

I’m not a massive fan of compilations, but seeing the tunes on this and pretty much knowing them off by heart it’s a certy shut down ting! Even more so due to the fact that it’s mixed by none other than DJ Maximum himself, so I already know I’ll be waking up my neighbours religiously every Sunday morning with a generous portion of this. Tracks such as “I Luv U”, “Wot Do U Call It?” and “P’s & Q’s” which remind me of yesteryears (and bunnin’ lemon on the back of the top deck of a 109 bus), combined with the modern day hits such as “Shut Up”, “Shut Down” and “Lock Arrf” to name but a few, make the cut on a sick looking compilation. I know the “purists” may say it’s not “obscure” enough, but they’re not writing this article, I am, and frankly, no one cares about your opinion. The reason for my excitement when I first laid eyes on this track listing is simply for the fact that the choice makes perfect sense. In collaboration with the legendary Ministry Of Sound (who else) and BBC 1Xtra, DJ Maximum brings in a hefty amount of grime with a whopping 42 tracks, all spread out over 2 CD’s (physical copies still exist in case you didn’t know). With a mix of new school gems (which can already be considered classics) and old school favourites, this compilation is something of a must have for your parties, get togethers at your nan’s house over a Sunday roast or if you just want a bit of a playlist with attitude. Yeah, I know… I grew up around sound systems in south London in the early 90’s and this is a word I use a lot when impressed by a heavy tune or an amazing track listing such as this one.

So when I first laid my eyes on BBK’s DJ Maximum’s track listing for his brand new grime compilation entitled ‘Grime Time’ one word automatically came out of my mouth. However, although at times they come close to overshadowing the subtle instrumentation provided by Major and Dan Rothman, it’s actually the intrinsic balance between the contributions of all three that defines their sound.Sometimes you look at something and certain words just come out naturally. It's no surprise that Reid's strong vocals are at the forefront of London Grammar's sound, and her voice dominates their music in much the same way as Florence Welch's does in Florence + the Machine. Listen free to DJ Maximum Grime Time: Ministry Of Sound.

The obvious confidence Reid has in her own voice belies the apparent vulnerability in the words she sings throughout, and the piano ballad "Strong" is testament to the loneliness and heartbreak that encapsulates the brooding feel of the album, which conflicts with the almost upbeat, danceable moments scattered amongst "Flickers" and "Stay Awake." They pay homage to their electronic influences mid-album with a rework of Kavinsky's "Nightcall" that unfolds gently into one of the most boisterous cuts on the record. The percussive production, synths, and basslines provided by multi-instrumentalist Dot Major, build on this sense of drama and urgency and are displayed perfectly in one of the highlights of the record, "Wasting My Young Years." Its throbbing chorus is chastened by the slow-burning synths and guitars that come together with stunning results when coupled with Reid's vocal delivery. With obvious nods to the unfussy, reverbed guitar motifs of the xx, alongside Hannah Reid's beautiful, emotive vocal ability which rises and falls with an alarmingly disarming effect the album is a practice in refrain, where each song is pushed to the brink of an inevitable climax and achingly, no further. 28760 HER 64 28668 JUST 65 27030 TIME 66 26954 SOME 67 26800 SHE 68 26526. With a collective following of over 5 Million, Ministry of Sound and the Boy Better Know roster (including Sketpa, JME and Wiley) will be working all-out to create an unstoppable, unforgettable grime-wave with this 2CD compilation featuring the all-stars of the scene. Partnered with an appearance on Disclosure's Mercury-nominated album Settle, the Nottingham University alumni had set the internet hype machine in motion, less than a year after forming. Ministry of Sound presents the biggest names in the game with Grimetime, mixed by Boy Better Know’s very own DJ Maximum. English trio London Grammar have quietly amassed a body of atmospheric, electronic pop material since they first posted "Metal & Dust" on the internet in 2012.
